Within
the borough
of Rosignano Marittimo,
Vada is one of the more peaceful areas for
holidays on
the Estruscan coast, known as "Rada
del Saraceno", owes its fame to the
beauty of the sea water and the ample beach with fine
sand. With 5 kilometres of beach, it
offers guests the possibility of choosing what suits
them best.

The
beach is mainly free, but it is possible to hire umbrellas
and ask for information at the excellent bathing establishments
on the private sections. The white
beach, situated on the northern part of Vada, is
already frequented all year round by half of the tourists.
There are many water sports on the coast of
Saraceno, the first is surely sailing and wind
surfing another variation. But diving and
fishing are also notable, thanks to the extraordinary
beauty and richness of the sea water.
But Vada isn't only sea. There are restaurants, pizzerias
of good standard, together with sport centres and every type
of distraction to complete the offer. Then, in the evening,
the local park, nightclubs and discos
complete the tourist offer. For the past few years, Vada has
been awarded the blue flag by the FEE-Italy for the
quality of its tourist offer and for the cleaniness of the
sea-waters surrounding the bathing establishments.

Acknowledged
during the era of Cicerone (64 b.c.) as a natural
port, it was a hiding place for the Saraceni pirates.
Its beginning is even more ancient and stems from
2000 years ago, as testimony to the paper
"Pantingeriana" of 330 b.c. Vada became
famous in antique times as a port for Volterra
and thanks to the sea traffic was able to develop,
as can be seen by the discovery of buildings, by archeologists,
in the area of S. Gaetano.

After
the Romanic period, it suffered a long and gradual period
of decline. It was only in 1840, following the drainage
work assisted in person by the Grand Duke Leopoldo II di
Lorena, that the town began to grow. In just a few years
the town changed completely, eventually becoming that half
of tourism of the Maremma which we know today. Not to be forgotten
the night of 19th October 1867 when Giuseppe Garibaldi,
an escaped prisoner of Caprera, was seen landing on the sea-shore
of Vada.
