The Park around the Villa

A large Park with Trees that still preserves important Archaeological finds.

Surrounding the Villa are the lights and shadows of the natural park. Dotted with stone benches where one can enjoy a moment of relaxation, read a book or enjoy a drink.

The coolness of the regenerating oaks, the cork trees and other species typical of the Mediterranean, is the backdrop to the collection of archaeological artefacts (capitals, parts of columns and architectural friezes) from the Roman and Lombard period of the ancient Vada Volaterrana, that have been preserved here since the construction of the Villa in 1842.

Of great importance is the plaque commemorating Pupienia Cethegilla, daughter of the Emperor of Rome that lived in the third century AD. One can note the two sarcophagi from the Lombard era VI - VII AD.
All these findings, notified by the Archaeological Superintendence of Tuscany in the period of "cleaning up the Maremma" in the early 20th century, were brought to light in the area of Vada and transported within the park to be conserved.

Worth a visit is the small building Haus Cafe in the other the end of park, where it once upon a time it was customary to spend the afternoon in the warm season. Nearby, a small plaque from 1908 recalls the memory of Dick, the faithful dog of Ugo Ginori-Conti.
Returning then back to the Villa you will find on your right, the building Torrino, where you can see the "Concaio" - or wash basins - where the servants did the laundry.

What wonder, then, for children of all ages, to encounter with the five peacocks strolling quietly in the park. The birds have become accustomed to humans, and one can see the dens of wild rabbits and woodpeckers, tenants in the park of Villa Graziani.
